SUBJECT: Bulldog Blast 9-23-22

September 23, 2022

We are so grateful for the amazing volunteer turnout this year! Thanks so much to everyone who has signed up to help with PTSA programs and events. If you're wanting to get involved check out our current volunteer opportunities below.

For the safety of our students, all volunteers must:

Be approved as a volunteer through LWSD

Provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination (can be shown at front office)

Visit LWSD's volunteer page for information on how to apply.

Bell PTSA is thrilled to welcome Mrs. Lustgarten back for the 2022-23 school year to do art lessons with all Bell students! For each art lesson we would like to have a volunteer to assist. Lessons for grades 1-5 will be held in the Art Room. Kindergarten lessons will be held in the Kindergarten classrooms.

If you can help, please sign-up (link below) and plan to arrive 10 minutes before the lesson time listed below to help with any set-up and to stay 10 minutes after to help with clean-up.

Walk to School Week is October 3-7! This is a super fun and easy volunteer opportunity that occurs for 30 minutes each day before school that week. Volunteers help collect the names of kids who have walked (or just want to enter)! We will also need a volunteer to wear the Bulldog Costume! The kids love this event and you're all done by the time your little ones have entered the building!

Sign up here!

We still need a Walk to School Week chairperson! Our amazing VP of Community Events has already started planning but would LOVE a helping hand. If you're interested in helping with the planning of this event, please contact Erin at communityevents@agbellptsa.org

Pantry Packs are weekly food packs confidentially sent home with families identified as food insecure (more information about the Pantry Packs program below).

We need weekly volunteers to deliver Pantry Packs to classrooms at Bell. Deliveries are generally done on Thursdays after school. Sign up here to help!

The Bell PTSA rolls our popcorn machine outside (usually two Fridays per month) and we start poppin'. As the students head out for lunch recess, we are there waiting with fresh bags of popcorn. Bell students love Popcorn Friday, and so do we!

We need volunteers for every Popcorn Friday. Please sign-up!

Visit our Popcorn Friday page for more info.

Popcorn is $0.50 per bag - purchase a popcorn pass today

Did you know the Bell PTSA works with the Lake Washington Schools Foundation (a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization) to provide food to Bell families-in-need every week? We sure do! We pick up food bags from the Lake Washington Schools Foundation, then we purchase fresh produce and additional food items to add to each food pack. Once the bags are packed, we distribute them to the families. We need support to run this program! Here are all the ways you can help:

1) Donate food directly to Bell families via our Amazon wish list

2) Donate funds to support Bell families in-need

3) Donate gift cards (Fred Meyer, QFC, or Costco) or non-perishable food

4) Sign-up to help deliver pantry packs to classrooms.

5) Donate food or funds to the Lake Washington Schools Foundation to support the program across the entire district.

More info can be found on our Pantry Pack page.

On October 3-7 join us and millions of other students, parents, and teachers all over the country and walk to school!

Walking and biking to school is a fun way to get exercise, reduce congestion and pollution around schools, and create community. Studies say students who walk and bike to school arrive more alert and ready to learn!

Every morning of the week the PTSA will have tables set up where students can enter into a daily raffle to win prizes! One winner per grade will be announced each day. Tell your students to be on the lookout for a special mystery guest!!!

If you'd like to help out with with greeting and raffle tickets sign up here!

We're up to 166 PTSA members! Thank you to everyone who has joined and a big thank you to Monica Peach for her work getting members entered into the database.

If you haven't joined yet, we'd love to have you! The PTSA's exclusive interest is in the health, welfare, safety, and education of our children. The more engaged and involved we are as a school community, the more our students and our school will thrive. Becoming a PTSA member is a simple show of support for the programs and activities the PTSA offers with no additional requirements - you choose your level of involvement.  Join us in supporting our school, staff, students, and community and become a member today!

As a reminder, all PTSA memberships expire at the end of each school year. If you haven't renewed your membership (or if you're new to Bell), join all the amazing teachers, parents, grandparents, and community members who make up our PTSA. Your membership, financial donations, and volunteering are what make our work possible.

Enrichment Class Enrollment Update

Most of our enrichment classes start next week! If your student would like to participate, please get your registration in this weekend.

Snapology - spots available, chaperone needed - we have one parent willing to split the role with 1-2 others.

As with all of our classes, we MUST have a parent chaperone for each class. The chaperone must be a PTSA member (for insurance coverage). The main duties of the chaperone are to make sure the students are safe and where they're supposed to be, and to ensure there are two adults present at all times (one being the instructor). By chaperoning, your student gets free tuition. The role can also be split between 2-3 volunteers for a partial discount. To volunteer to chaperone, email studentenrichment@agbellptsa.org.

The following classes have met enrollment minimum needed for class to be held:

Art - spots available

Soccer - spots available

Chess - only 1 spot left!

Hip Hop - class full

Science - only 2 spots left!

Choir Grades 2-5 - spots available

Wednesday's Choir class is now open to 2nd grade.

Last year we noticed a lot of pet waste on the trails at Bell Elementary and we had more than a few kiddos stepping in dog poop (yuck!). A Bell parent contacted the city and had a pet waste station installed at the trail head on 112th street (thank you, Brandon). The city absorbed the cost of the installation; however, our community is responsible for restocking bags. We would appreciate dog bag donations. The specific type of bags used in this station can be purchased HERE. Please drop bag donations off at the front desk or ship them directly to Bell to the attention of the PTSA.

And as a reminder, please ALWAYS pick up after your pets!

Are you looking for some spiritwear for your kiddo or yourself?

Visit our spiritwear store to get your Bulldog gear!

Spiritwear can be purchased year-round.
