SUBJECT: Bulldog Blast 3-11-22

March 11, 2022

One of WSPTA's top five legislative priorities is to prevent and reduce gun violence and suicide. Last week, the House voted to prohibit the sale, importation, distribution, and manufacture of firearm magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition. This marks one of the biggest wins in the Legislature in recent years for advocates of gun regulations.

A sincere thank you to our Bell community members who advocated for change during this legislative session. Even though the 60-day session has ended, our advocacy work continues. For more information about the legislative session, read this week's legislative report from WSPTA.

March is Women's History Month. It's not only an opportunity to celebrate the women who have made an impact on our history, culture, and society, it's also an opportunity for us to educate ourselves and our children about women being largely underrepresented in many facets of life (e.g., politics, workplace, science, sports, journalism, etc.). While much progress has been made, there is still a long ways to go.

Visit our Women's History Month page for resources and reading materials to help educate students about these inequalities and the continued work toward social justice and gender equality.

Have you ever wondered what the Bell PTSA executive board does? Below is an organizational chart outlining each role. Visit the Executive Board page for more details.

A number of our current board members are in their second year (term limits are 2 years for each position). We need some new folks to step into these roles with some fresh ideas and to keep the momentum going. If you want to learn more, email the nominating committee at nominations@agbellptsa.org.

If you want to help out but aren't sure about the best way to get involved, fill out the volunteer interest form, and we will connect with you. Visit our volunteer page to see all current volunteer opportunities.

Attention 5th grade parents:

  • Yearbook Dedications - Please submit a dedication to your 5th grader in this year's yearbook. Upload a favorite photo to the 5th Grade Dedications folder in TreeRing and add a caption with your best wishes for them as they make the transition to middle school. You can also send the photo and caption to yearbook@agbellptsa.org. Must be uploaded by May 1.

  • Room Parents - We still have some open slots for 5th grade room parents. These parents will be involved with planning the 5th grade promotion ceremony. Sign-up HERE to help out.

  • Finn Hill Middle School PTSA
    • FHMS is looking for PTSA board members for next year. If you are interested in learning more about a FHMS PTSA board position, please email Kristen Dorwin at kdorwin@gmail.com.
    • FHMS is hosting a virtual 5K race this spring. They are inviting incoming Bell students and families to participate.

With the mask mandate ending, we want to do whatever we can to maintain good air quality at school. We still have a number of classrooms without air purifiers and some smaller rooms without access to outside windows (e.g., Safety Net rooms).

Please consider donating an air purifier today.

Simply sign-up HERE, then purchase an air purifier(s), and drop it off at the front office indicating which classroom you would like it to go to.

*suggested model to cover square footage is in the sign-up

The recess soccer program has been such a HUGE hit that we decided to extend the contract through mid-June. Having said this, we MUST have two volunteers every Tuesday and Thursday from 12-2 in order to maintain this program. Please sign-up HERE to help out.

We have a few weeks left to submit entries for the yearbook cover contest (entries due by March 31). This year’s theme is: Expect the Unexpected

What does that look like to your student? Have them create their artistic vision, take a photo of it (or scan it), and email it to yearbook@agbellptsa.org. Be sure to keep the original art, as we may need it.

A reminder of the requirements:

  • 8 1/2 x 11 paper
  • Vertical orientation
  • Include school name and school year: 2021-22
  • Use lots of color, including the background - limit white space
  • Do not add text too close to the edge of the page (leave a 1" border)

Visit the Yearbook Cover Contest page for more info.

Questions: email yearbook@agbellptsa.org

We need more help in the lunchroom. The Bell PTSA recently relaunched the composting and food donation programs during lunch. We need one volunteer at each lunch period to help the students with composting and food donations. Click HERE for more information and to sign-up to help.
