SUBJECT: Bulldog Blast 5-14-21

May 14, 2021

Today is the last day of Walk to School Week. What a great week! We had so much fun and the weather was perfect. Below is an overview of the week along with some photos.

  • Every student received a small trinket each morning as they entered the building.
  • Every day a raffle winner was selected and received a cool prize.
  • Alex, the Bell Bulldog mascot, spent the week giving out high fives and hugs.
  • The Kirkland Police Department joined us today as we wrapped up the week.
  • All kiddos got a bag of freshly popped popcorn to take home this afternoon.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered and made this week possible. And thank you, Christi Zemke, for organizing this wonderful event!

Please take a moment to submit your nomination for recipients of the following two awards for the 2020-2021 school year.

Deadline: May 31, 2021

The Outstanding Educator Award

This award is established by National PTA and awarded by Bell PTSA to an individual who has made significant contributions in their community to enhance the educational outcomes of all children or youth. An educator is not limited to a teacher and may be defined as a teacher, assistant, specialist, support staff, administrator, or community member.

Golden Acorn Award

This award is established by National PTA and awarded by Bell PTSA to an individual who has provided exemplary volunteer service to children and youth in our community. The Golden Acorn is given for continued and dedicated service. Nominees for this award include volunteers that dedicate their time to advocating for children and supporting the mission of our PTA: To create and foster opportunities that enrich and support our children, teachers, and community.

Our yearbook chair, Jodie Galvan, is working hard to put together a wonderful yearbook for the Bell community. Below are a few need-to-know items:

  • Photos can be uploaded until the last day of school - June 16th
  • Yearbooks can be ordered through June 16th - please ensure you have the order shipped direct to your home, not the school.
  • If you plan to do customized pages, these need to be done by June 16th
  • And please get your photos uploaded! We want to ensure we have a good representation of all Bell students
  • 5th grade parents - please get your student dedications in ASAP
  • We recently decided to extend the deadline for yearbook photos to the end of the year. This will enable us to include pictures from the last day of school and 5th grade graduation. It will also give families more time to upload their photos. Given this extended deadline, yearbooks likely won't ship until July.

With 5th grade graduation right around the corner, the planning is well underway. The 5th grade parents organizing this event need help from YOU! They are looking for parents/families to donate needed items and funds. Please click here to help out and make this event special for our children!

Due to COVID restrictions, this will be a student-only event. Look for more information about this event in the next few weeks.

In addition to providing weekly food packs to our food-insecure families at Bell, we also provide each classroom with a snack bin to ensure all Bell students have something to eat during snack time. The bins are available for any student who does not have a snack for the day.

The PTSA has a budget of $2,500 to help fund the Pantry Pack program this year. However, providing food to 32 families each week and stocking all classrooms with snacks costs substantially more than $2,500. For this reason, we partner with the Lake Washington Schools Foundation and rely on community donations to keep this program up and running. Please consider donating food items via our Amazon wish list

Thank you so much to all of you who have continued to donate throughout the year!

  • Parents are highly encouraged to register students as soon as possible. Doing so helps LWSD ensure that class sizes are balanced and adequate staff are hired in time for the new school year.
  • We'd love to help get the word out by putting a few yard signs up at houses in the area (preferably on 112th or other high traffic areas). If interested, email Brian Story at bstory@lwsd.org
