SUBJECT: Bulldog Blast 3-18-22

March 18, 2022

We are thrilled to bring back our before and after-school enrichment programs this spring. Visit the enrichment classes page for more information and to register. Thank you to our VP of Student Enrichment, Keri Morgan, for all of her work to bring these awesome programs to our families.

Registration is open now!

For the spring session, we are offering the following classes:

  • After-school classes
    • Smart with Art: Amazing Artists (K-5)
    • Mad Science: Fantastic Physics (1-5)
    • GOALS After School Soccer and Wellness (K-5)

  • Before-school classes
    • All Sports by One on One (K-3)
    • Flag Football by One on One (3-5)

This year, families will register directly with the vendor rather than registering with the Bell PTSA. All classes are held at Bell Elementary.

As with all of our classes, we MUST have a parent chaperone for each class. The chaperone must be a PTSA member (for insurance coverage). The main duties of the chaperone are to make sure the students are safe and where they're supposed to be, and to ensure there are two adults present at all times (one being the instructor). By chaperoning, your student gets free tuition. To volunteer to chaperone, email studentenrichment@agbellptsa.org.

Funding air purifiers for all the classrooms in the building would have cost over $7K. Since our budgeted expenses exceed the amount we fundraised this year, we asked families to donate air purifiers. Thank you to all of our families who donated air purifiers (and replacement filters) to a classroom.

With the mask mandate ending, we had staff members reach out about getting air purifiers in all the classrooms. The executive board voted to amend our budget, allocating $3K to this effort. (The board can amend the budget up to 10% without a vote from membership.) We ordered air purifiers for all the classrooms that needed one. All classrooms (including pre-k) now have air purifiers.

Worth noting:

  • Amount fundraised this year (YTD): $48K
  • Budgeted expenses for this year: $75K

We will deplete a large portion of our reserve fund this year and will need to make some cuts to next year's budget as a result. We encourage families to donate throughout the year and submit your donations for employer matching.

Do you have an interest in helping kids showcase their talents? Are you digitally savvy? If so, we're looking for a parent volunteer to coordinate a virtual talent show this spring.

Please contact communityevents@agbellptsa.org with questions or if interested!

Nothing we do is possible without volunteers. We encourage all family members to get involved by volunteering. Most of our executive board members, chairs, and volunteers are employed outside the home and many do most of their volunteer time outside of school hours. Please visit our volunteer page to see all current volunteer opportunities and help us keep the momentum going!

If you want to help out but aren't sure about the best way to get involved, fill out the volunteer interest form, and we will connect with you.

The recess soccer program has been such a HUGE hit! We need volunteers to keep this program running. We still need 2 volunteers for the following dates this month 3/24, 3/29, 3/31, Tuesday and Thursday from 12-2. Please sign-up HERE to help out.

We put some signs up at Bell this week to remind families to turn off their engines. We have pre-k and kindergarten classrooms close to the parking lot. We need to protect their Bulldog lungs and our planet!

Also, our Green Team needs more help in the lunchroom. We need one volunteer at each lunch period to help the students with composting and food donations. Click HERE for more information and to sign-up to help.

We have a few weeks left to submit entries for the yearbook cover contest. Entries are due by March 31. This year’s theme is: Expect the Unexpected

What does that look like to your student? Have them create their artistic vision and send it to yearbook@agbellptsa.org (take a photo of it, scan it, or send the digital file). Be sure to keep the original art, as we may need it.

Visit the Yearbook Cover Contest page for requirements. Questions: email yearbook@agbellptsa.org

We are now midway through our Read 4 Adventure program. Be sure to check in with your student and see how they are progressing with their reading minutes. Encourage them that it is not too late to get their 8 hours of reading in so they can earn a voucher for High Trek Adventures! Happy Reading!

Visit our Read 4 Adventure page for more information and a printable reading log.

We encourage families to read the bill summary and the last legislative report for this session, by Marie Sullivan, WSPTA Legislative Consultant. These two document summarize what occurred during this year's legislative session and how it will impact our schools and communities.

Thank you to all of you who participated in this session and advocated for our students.

Dine-Outs are one of the ways we fundraise throughout the year. We partner with local restaurants who give a percentage of sales to Bell PTSA for the day of the event. It's a great way to come together to support our school and our local restaurants. Please mark your calendars and join us for our next event, and encourage your friends and neighbors to join as well.

  • When: March 28-31 (4-day event)
  • Where: Dough Zone - 520 Uptown CT, Kirkland Urban
  • How: Dine-in or take-out food from Dough Zone between March 28 - 31 and 20% of your order total will be donated to Bell PTSA. The promo code is Bell (for online, phone, or in-person orders).
