Trade in your Halloween Candy for cash for the Bell PTSA!

For every pound of candy we collect, Neal Smiles Orthodontics will donate $1 to the AG Bell PTSA! In addition, the class that donates the most candy will win a pizza party from Neal Smiles!

Please bring extra candy to school between November 1st and November 5th. There will be collection bags in each classroom.

All Bell students will do screening for both hearing and vision on Tuesday, November 2nd. The LWSD nurse organizing the event needs 12-15 volunteers on Tuesday, Nov. 2nd from 9am - 2pm.

Please sign-up to help (more info in the sign-up)!

Calling all Veterans!

This year, the school is having a virtual Veterans Day assembly to celebrate our Bell Veterans. If you have a family member that is a veteran, we would like to celebrate them. Please send a picture of them with their name and relation to your student to Sara Schmied at sschmied@lwsd.org. Thank you!

Do you want to see composting back in our lunch room? Do you want your children to get the consistent message that sustainability is important?

If so, we need your help. We are looking for 5+ volunteers who are willing to help out in the lunchroom for a few weeks. If you can help, please sign-up here (more details in the sign-up).

Classroom Air Purifier Drive
This school year, teachers are approved to have air purifiers in the classrooms to help filter the air and prevent the spread of Covid-19. As we know, these HEPA-filter purifiers can be expensive, so we are looking for one parent leader for each class to donate an air filter unit (or, work with families in your classroom to gather funds to purchase one together). We would also love help procuring a few more for the specialists and other rooms our children frequent. If you can help, please sign-up here.

Bell staff - we did our best to only list classrooms who do not have air purifiers. Let us know if you would like to be added or removed from this list.

The PTSA recently sent a survey to Bell teachers and staff asking them if they would like a room parent (i.e., a go-to volunteer for their classroom), and if so, how many. For the staff members who indicated they would like a room parent(s), we have created the below sign-up.

The following teachers are still looking for one or more room parents:

  • Ms. Dennehey
  • Mr. Turnbull
  • Mrs. Flowers

If you're interested in being a room parent, please sign-up here

This election includes several Kirkland City Council and LWSD School Board Director races in addition to King County Executive and much more. The way we vote directly impacts our community, our district, and our school. We encourage our community members to be educated voters - set aside the time to understand the candidates and the issues, and vote from a place of knowledge.

LWPTSA Council invited all local school board candidates to participate in a written Q&A forum. Each candidate was asked the following questions:

  1. Please tell us a little about yourself and why you decided to run for office
  2. Since 2010, Lake Washington School District has passed one capital bond with three other bond attempts failing. Meanwhile, the District has grown by at least 600 students per year over the past decade. Right now, a bond requires a 60% “yes” vote to pass. Would you support changing that to “simple majority”? What other ideas do you have to fund school construction capital projects?
  3. Is current funding for basic education sustainable through property taxes? What is the next step to fund education?
  4. What solutions will you be advocating for to help reduce the growing opportunity gap between students from high-income and lower income families? What are the barriers to those solutions?

Candidates' Answers

You can find more information about the LWSD, Director District No. 3 race here.
You can find more information about the LWSD, Director District No. 4 race here.

November 2nd is the last day to register in person and vote for the General Election. Ballots must be postmarked by November 2nd or returned to a ballot drop box by 8 p.m.
