SUBJECT: Bulldog Blast 10-22-21

October 22, 2021

Dear Bell Supporters,

YOU ARE AMAZING!! Thank you for your involvement in our recent fundraiser.  Your spirit and participation was truly inspiring! To raise nearly $30,000 in a direct donation campaign is unprecedented for our school. I truly believe that our children and schools thrive when their community is actively involved, and the level of involvement you engaged in last week was overwhelmingly awesome! Thanks to YOU, the PTSA will not have to make tough budget cuts this year. Thanks to YOU, the PTSA will be able to honor teacher grant requests. Thanks to YOU, the PTSA will be able to host fun events for all Bell students and their families. THANK YOU for making the competition so fun and so worthwhile! YOU ARE AMAZING!!

Enjoy your weekend,

Jane Helbig

VP Fundraising

We are thrilled to bring back Bell's Harvest Party this year. This year's event will be a fun night of trunk-or-treating. The entire event will be outdoors (no activities inside the building this year). Additionally, we will do the event by grade level in an effort to reduce exposure.

All attendees will be required to wear masks.

Date: Friday, October 29, 2021

Time: Please see the schedule below and arrive at your scheduled time:

  • 5:30pm - Pre-k, kindergarten, & 1st
  • 6:15pm - 2nd, 3rd, 2/3 Quest
  • 7:00pm - 4th. 5th, 4/5 Quest
Note: Families with students in multiple grades can choose one time slot for all their kiddos or bring their kids at separate times.

THANK YOU to our volunteers for making this event possible! We need a few more!

Our first field trip of the year is here! We're headed (virtually) to Oxbow Farm and Conservation Center to explore the Snoqualmie Valley's ecology, and learn more about the plants that humans (and other critters!) eat. Students will take a live video tour of what’s growing on the farm, looking for ripe fruits, farm helpers, and pests. They will also explore farm phenomena such as decomposition and plant life cycles. Each grade will participate in their own virtual farm tour, tailored to their age group, exploring Life Sciences through guided inquiry.

Field Trip Schedule:

  • Nov. 2 (10-11am Kindergarten / 2-3pm 3rd Grade)
  • Nov. 3 (10-11am 1st Grade / 11:20am-12:20pm 2nd Grade & 2/3 Quest)
  • Nov. 4 (10-11am 5th Grade / 2-3pm 4th & 4/5 Quest)

More information about Oxbow and a collection of their educational videos can be found here.

Thank you to all families who have donated to the PTSA for helping to fund this field trip! And thank you to our VP of Student Enrichment, Keri Morgan, for organizing this event!

We are seeing some wonderful Bulldog creations come our way (below are a few recent submissions). Don't forget to send a photo of your painted, carved, or decorated pumpkin to communityevents@agbellptsa.org by Sunday, October 31st.

  • All contestants will be entered into a raffle (to keep this event as equitable as possible).
  • Each winner will receive a small prize - one winner per grade.
  • Winners will be announced on November 1st.

Do you want to see composting back in our lunch room? Do you want your children to get the consistent message that sustainability is important?

If so, we need your help. We are looking for 5+ volunteers who are willing to help out in the lunchroom for a few weeks (each of us would take a handful of shifts). If you can help, please sign-up here.

Classroom Air Purifier Drive
This school year, teachers are approved to have air purifiers in the classrooms to help filter the air and prevent the spread of Covid-19. As we know, these HEPA-filter purifiers can be expensive, so we are looking for one parent leader for each class to donate an air filter unit (or, work with families in your classroom to gather funds to purchase one together). We would also love help procuring a few more for the specialists and other rooms our children frequent. If you can help, please sign-up here.

Bell staff - we did our best to only list classrooms who do not have air purifiers. Let us know if you would like to be added or removed from this list.

The PTSA recently sent a survey to Bell teachers and staff asking them if they would like a room parent (i.e., a go-to volunteer for their classroom), and if so, how many. For the staff members who indicated they would like a room parent(s), we have created the below sign-up.

The following teachers are still looking for one or more room parents:

  • Ms. Dennehey
  • Mr. Morris
  • Mr. Turnbull
  • Mrs. Flowers

If you're interested in being a room parent, please sign-up here

Bell Elementary PTSA and LWSD Council have officially kicked off the 2021-22 Reflections art program and your student is invited to participate.

Students are encouraged to submit art reflecting the theme I Will Change the World By… by October 29th in one or all of the available arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts (note: only 2D).

Thank you, Tennile Jones, for chairing Reflections again this year!

We are doing Popcorn Friday two weeks in a row! Given that a number of classrooms are doing in-class Harvest Parties on Friday, October 29th and many of our popcorn volunteers will be in the classroom, we are doing a "Popcorn Thursday" instead.

  • Friday, October 22nd
  • Thursday, October 28th (rescheduled from 10/29)

Visit our Popcorn Friday page for more info and to purchase a popcorn pass.
